Please keep in mind this list is aimed at a beginner cook (no sous-vides tools here) who is either living alone or as a couple.

love talk: how 30-minutes, 1x a week can benefit your relationship

Because our weekdays are so jam-packed with activities, Brandon and I started to think about a way to spend time together outside of dinner/in front of the tv/ in bed falling asleep. I am a morning person, and I also love walking, so I recommended morning walks. Brandon was on board with the idea, and so we gave it a shot. We scheduled one day a week on the calendar to wake up early and go for a walk together.

the weekend cast

Good morning ladies + gents! I'm up early this morning to write the weekend cast. Procrastination: it happens to the best of us. I'm sipping on a luxurious latté and looking forward to a quiet morning in the office *fingers crossed*. Also, dreaming about the fluffy milk bread sandwiches we ate in Tokyo. The breakfast pictured above was on our first day out and about. Oh how I miss it!

7 Ways To Relieve Menstrual Cramps Naturally

I've done a bit of reading to figure out what actually helps me feel better when aunt Flo comes for a visit, and I'd love to share my recommendations with you. In cases of extreme back pain, I do take advil liquid gels to help me get back on my feet quickly. Otherwise, I try my best to utilize as many of the suggestions below to relieve stiffness and pain without popping a pill.

Around the web this week we've got a spin on traditional cookies, skin supplements (both internal and external), funky earrings that make me want to book a flight to Havana, the most beautiful smoothies you've ever seen, and more right below.

5 Workouts to Do When You're Stressed AF

Recently though I've really been craving a good sweat session. A seriously intense, turn your mind off, get all of your aggression out, get rid of the anxiety cardio power hour. With the wedding just a few months away, I've been feeling the weight on my shoulders. I go to bed thinking about veils and nails and bouquets and bands, and it's just thrown me off!

My plan this weekend is to check out rockaway beach with my friend Val, and eat all of the fish tacos in sight. I also want to see a movie and maybe go on a day trip with my brother. Seems like tomorrow will be a rainy saturday, so maybe we'll try an extensive cooking project like homemade croissants. Do you have recommendations for what to do on a rainy day in Brooklyn? And how about you? What do you have planned?

love talk: it's the little things

Did you know that a cacti plant can explode? I certainly didn't. When Brandon came home from his bachelor party on Sunday night, and walked over to his night table (very hungover, might I add), there was a sort of dried, brown water goop everywhere. Lovely, I know. We couldn't figure out where the HELL it was coming from until we saw our beloved cactus (photo above), deflated and limp, hanging over the lip of the vase. "WHAT THE HELL!?!" We both were shocked at 1) how on earth that happened and 2) how gross the thought of plant juice drying all over the wall and nightstand was.

7 Secrets to Your Best Sleep Ever

As a person who is constantly on my phone for one reason or another (sharing blog updates, texting a friend, calling my mom, answering an e-mail, taking a photo) I understand the desire (and often, the fun) of being on your phone. You're a busy person! I know. But when it comes to rest, the best thing you can do for your mind is let it get sleepy naturally, and reap in those benefits.

Wedding Etiquette: Who Gets A Plus-One?

Last week, a reader wrote me a note to ask about the proper etiquette regarding plus ones to a wedding. She and her boyfriend have been together for a while, and the bride has met her in the past, but she wasn't invited to the wedding. What's a girl to think? Is the bride just being bitchy? Should her boyfriend not attend the wedding in solidarity?

Undoubtedly the best part of summer is the simple fact that weekends are almost always spent elsewhere. I'm realizing that for the last month, we've gone someplace or another to soak up the sun and get in a swim or two. The cute polaroid photo of me up top is from our recent camping trip! But this weekend, the tides have turned and I'm staying put. Brandon is off on his bachelor party (if you're reading this B, behave!) and I'm holding down the fort in Brooklyn.

5 Tips For Hosting A Large Dinner Party

As many of you know, I'm from a big family, so a dinner party with 14 people feels more or less regular. Spectacularly loud and fun, but still, common in my life. Now I'm getting married to Brandon, who is 1 of 5 siblings! So.... two big families and what do you get? A lot of coordinating when it comes to going out or staying in all together. While it can be difficult to just turn your mind off when a big group is buzzing in your home, with just a few hints, it's something you too can do. Here are my suggestions for a smoother hosting process

DIY 5-Ingredient Sugar Scrub

Aside from the fact that store bought scrubs are often made with tiny pieces of plastic that harm the earth, they’re also pricey. It’s hard to find a scrub that leaves my skin baby soft without rubbing it raw first. And so, I created this easy, 5-ingredient DIY body scrub. It’s everlastingly adaptable, takes a few minutes to make, smells heavenly, doesn’t hurt the planet, and will save you the $35 you would have spent at Sephora. You’re welcome.

10 Things to Do 100 Days Before Your Wedding

I've been thinking a lot about what's left to get done in these last 100 days, and decided that a checklist would be helpful for all the brides out there. This list will vary depending on many factors, including how long of an engagement you have, but generally, keep these in mind at the 3-month-mark. Happy planning!
